Johnny Yukon – Snooze
Since I discovered this kid recently, “Snooze” has been on repeat. This song has a sleepy and moody vibe but still has energy due to the beat. The song is a bit older than the stuff in this playlist, but you have to listen to it and pay attention to Johnny who is coming out with his own music after earning major songwriter credits (for the likes of Lil Wayne and Leon Bridges) behind the scenes.
Bas feat J Cole – Tribe
A positive song with a summery vibe that includes some cool flows, with J Cole’s feature being the cherry on the top. Bas is still quite underrated as he can make good songs and good albums, but I hope this song gets people’s attention. The shout out to God from J Cole, as if God is his homie, for hooking him up with a nice girl is purely great.
Ro Ransom feat Kensei Abbot – Floetry
I have been following Ransom from New York for almost 10 years now, but it always feels like he is this new freshman rapper coming out of nowhere with a new experimental style. I think he is so talented for always sounding fresh and this, sort of psychedelic, track is the evidence.
Tory Lanez feat Bryson Tiller – KeeP IN tOUCH
Two artists that patented their own style bring together a dope love song. It brings me back to those nights riding through Toronto thinking of the girls in my life, that is why I love Tory’s reference to Highway 401 and Yorkdale Mall.
6LACK – Nonchalant
I am glad 6LACK resurrected himself in the last two years after years of label purgatory. His honesty and calm raspy melodic flow makes his music so relatable. In this song he nonchalantly demonstrates strong rhymes and the metaphors are polished. The beat works well with his style and I hope we get more of this on his upcoming album “East Atlanta Love Letter”.
Ever since my songs went platinum like Sisqó, Life done found a filter like VSCO, ay.
Tirzah – Go Now
Sweet song with a grungy UK beat, but about real life shit and domestic stuff we all can relate to. Another female UK singer paving the way just like Jorja, with harsh honesty packaged inside a beautiful voice.
